Tickets go on sale this week for progressive rock act Yes' upcoming performance at the House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach, yet the band will be without the voice of its "classic"period and biggest hits as vocalist Jon Anderson stays home recovering from repiratory ailments.

Yes won't be the first successful rock act to tour without the singer that catapulted it into the charts - i.e. Gary Cherone taking the place of both Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth in Van Halen, and Alice In Chain's decision to carry on without Layne Staley, ditto with Johnny Van Zant taking his dead brother's place in Lynyrd Skynyrd. And then there's Journey, which wraps up its current tour on Sunday in Nevada, a band that's on its third replacement for singer Steve Perry.

But, it begs the question, and that's what we do here with our Trash or Smash polls, we ask our readers profound musical questions, who would you rather see in concert sans their trademark singer?

Which one is trash, and which one is a smash?

Why is it when I asked the gas station clerk for full service, she gave me a latex glove and a tube of K-Y Jelly?

S.L.E.D. (South Carolina Law Enforcement Division) recently charged Robert Johnson, 70, from the town of Chester with First Degree and Second Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct and Lewd Act on a Minor. Does that make him a molester from Chester?

Okay, so this isn't New York or L.A., or even Miami or Chicago.

But there's still plenty going on along the Grand Strand that doesn't involve Calabash seafood and country line dancing. So we don't want to hear "I'm so bored - there's nothing to do around here!"

Here's something cool to do: learn how to blow glass (get your mind out of the gutter).

As part of Conway's First Saturday Art Walk, Pop's Glass Station will feature glass blowing demonstrations from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

You can watch as the glass blowers transform molten glass from a 2150-degree furnace and transform it into colorful works of art.

The demonstrations are free and open to the public.

• Pop's Glass Station is at 911-A Norman Alley in downtown Conway.
Call 450-9232 or visit www.popsglass.com.

Saturday's Art Walk is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and participating galleries and studios in downtown Conway will have their doors open, some will live music and refreshments, as the collective encourages browsing and foot traffic.

Other participating galleries are:
Graphic Blend Studios, Main Street. www.graphicblend.com 331.9744.

Art By Marina Gallery, 909 Norman Alley, www.artbymarina.com 488.4907.

Weekly Surge beats the street each week to gauge the pulse of our community. This week we asked:

Are you surprised that Hard Rock Park has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and shut down for the season?

George Kite, 24
Conway

"Hell no, I'm not surprised about it at all. They had horrible timing and a horrible location not to mention the ticket prices are way too high - that place isn't Disney World."

Matt Johnson, 19,
Conway

"No way, I wasn't surprised. I knew it was going to happen sooner than later. Ticket prices are way too high for what they have there."

Hayley Grant, 19,
Aynor

"I wasn't surprised at all. I'm actually surprised they were open as long as they were. I would never pay 50 bucks to get into that place."
